Last year when the PayPal and Bump iPhone apps merged I thought it was an act of genius. I think that collaboration of data and services between applications and websites though licensing deals and APIs is the way of the future.
However, when Spotify and Shazam made their announcement today I was left puzzled. To be honest I can’t see the point. You use Shazam when you’re not sure whatever it is you’re already listening to so why would you want to use Spotify to listen to music that you’re already listening to?
After raking my brains for apps that I’d like to see working together, the best I could come up with was Spotify and More Cowbell and gamify the result in order to produce some kind of “Cowbell Hero” app. Unfortunately it looks like someone has beaten me to it.
